Navkiran “Kiran” K. Shokar, M.D., MPH, is chair of the Department of Population Health, a professor of population health and associate dean for Community Affairs at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

Prior to joining Dell Med, Shokar served as a tenured professor of family and community medicine and molecular and translational medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC). She served as interim associate dean for clinical research, director for cancer prevention and control in the Center of Emphasis for Cancer, and vice chair for research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Before going to El Paso, she spent 11 years as a faculty member at UTMB Galveston.

Shokar was born and raised in England, where she received her Master of Arts degree from Cambridge University and her medical degree from Oxford University Medical School. She completed family medicine residency training in the U.K. (Banbury, Oxfordshire) and in the U.S. (Houston, Texas), where she served as chief resident. She subsequently completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health. 

In more than 20 years in academic medicine, Shokar has worked as a clinician, educator and clinical researcher. Her research interests include interventions in cancer prevention and control, shared decision-making, and community-based research to address cancer health disparities among vulnerable, poor and underserved populations. She has developed innovative population health approaches to bridge the divide between the community, the health care delivery system and public health.

Shokar has received more than $25 million in research funding from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Cancer Society (ACS), among others. She is well published, serves as a reviewer for many journals and served for six years as a deputy editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM). She is the recipient of two Dean’s Excellence in Research awards, the prestigious TTUHSC Chancellor’s Council Distinguished Research Award and the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) Distinguished Mentor award.

In addition to her institutional leadership roles, she has served on several national steering committees representing all four academic family medicine organizations and has served on key committees of NAPCRG and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). At the state level, she serves as chair of the Prevention Advisory Committee for CPRIT.

Sarah Felderhoff, MSN, APRN, is a licensed advanced practice registered nurse in Women’s Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Medicine. She is also a part of UT Medicine’s Cancer Fertility Preservation care team. She specializes in oncofertility, a subfield that bridges oncology and reproductive research to explore and expand options for cancer

Sarah Felderhoff earned her bachelor’s in nursing from The University of Texas at Austin and her Master’s in nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Sarah Felderhoff is an active member of both the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Austin Advanced Practice Nurses Network.

Declan Fleming, MD, FACS, is a board-certified hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical oncologist in UT Medicine’s Surgical Oncology Clinic. He specializes in the treatment of pancreatic, liver, and stomach cancers, as well as neuroendocrine tumors. Additionally, Dr. Fleming is an assistant professor and serves as the Director of Outreach and Integration for the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Fleming earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed a residency in general surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed a fellowship in burns, trauma, and critical care at the Shriners Hospitals for Children and a fellowship in general surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he was honored with the Marvin M. Romsdahl Clinical Excellence Award and the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship Award.

Dr. Fleming currently collaborates with Dr. H. J. Kim in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, developing “Human Organs-on-Chips” to study colon cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases. He also leads research in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in collaboration with the Departments of Kinesiology and Health Education and Nutritional Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is helping create a "prehabilitation" program to speed the recovery of patients undergoing cancer surgery. He is an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Kimberly Brown, MD, FACS, is a board-certified breast, liver, and skin surgical oncologist in UT Medicine’s Surgical Oncology Clinic. She specializes in tumors of the breast, liver, and skin. Additionally, Dr. Brown is a professor and serves as the Associate Chair of Education for the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Brown earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She completed a residency in general surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and a fellowship in surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. She also completed fellowship training in minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Brown is dedicated to improving collaborative care and outcomes for low-income cancer patients in Central Texas. She has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and presentations. She currently serves as a member of the Steering Committee for the Central Texas Addressing Cancer Together Coalition. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society for Surgical Oncology, and the Society of University Surgeons. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Paul S. Mueller, MD, MPH, MACP, is a board-certified internal medicine specialist in UT Medicine's Primary Care Clinic. He specializes in providing primary care for adults, which encompasses both primary care and consultative general internal medicine. Additionally, Dr. Mueller is a professor and serves as the Dr. Lowell Henry Lebermann Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine for the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Mueller earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and his master's degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed a residency in internal medicine on the Osler Medical Service at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he subsequently served as assistant chief of service.

Dr. Mueller previously served as a professor of medicine and biomedical ethics at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He is a past chair of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a former regional vice president of Mayo Clinic Health System in Southwest Wisconsin, where he oversaw two hospitals and eight clinics. During his tenure, he achieved the highest levels of patient experience, quality and safety, and led the construction of a new hospital. Over his 29 years at Mayo Clinic, he held numerous leadership roles, including chair of the Mayo Clinic Ethics Council. His research focuses on the ethical dilemmas associated with life-sustaining technologies, particularly implantable cardiovascular devices, and the imperatives for their use in clinical practice, as well as advance care planning. Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a “Top Internist,” he has received awards for teaching excellence at all levels of the medical education continuum.

Winifred Mak, MD, PhD, is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist and a part of both UT Medicine’s Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility care team and UT Medicine's Cancer Fertility Preservation care team. She specializes in understanding oocyte and early embryo biology to help patients facing infertility issues and recurrent pregnancy loss. Additionally, Dr. Mak is an associate professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health.

Dr. Mak earned her medical degree from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, a second residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mak has authored and co-authored several publications ranging from the cost-effectiveness of preimplantation genetic screening for women 37 years of age and older undergoing IVF to polycystic ovarian syndrome and the risk of cardiovascular disease and thrombosis.

Alexandra Weinberg, PT, DPT, is a licensed pelvic floor physical therapist in Women's Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Medicine. She specializes in pelvic floor dysfunctions, including bladder and bowel issues, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction, for individuals of all genders.

Alexandra Weinberg earned her bachelor's degree in biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin and her doctorate degree in physical therapy from Texas Women's University. She has completed additional training in pelvic health levels 1 and 2, oncology pelvic health levels 1 and 2, male pelvic health, vulvar pain, bowel pathology, and pain science. She is also a certified clinical instructor and holds a Green Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma, with several projects completed at MD Anderson Cancer Center aimed at reducing clinic wait times for returning patients and minimizing surgical complications after breast cancer surgery.

Alexandra Weinberg's research and clinical interests focus on educating patients and providers about pelvic floor therapy, enhancing clinic processes, and specializing in the treatment of oncologic pelvic floor conditions to improve patients' quality of life. She enjoys mentoring students and is a member of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy and the American Physical Therapy Association.

Jillian Bissar, MSSW, LCSW-S, is a licensed clinical social worker and a part of UT Medicine's Health Social Work care team. She specializes in providing care management and psychotherapy services to address patients’ psychosocial needs.

Jillian Bissar earned both her bachelor’s degree in social work and her master’s degree in social work from The University of Texas at Austin. She has additional training in comprehensive lifespan sexual health and healthy relationship curriculum, Our Whole Lives (OWL), and Enriching Communication Skills for Health Professionals in Oncofertility (ECHO). With these trainings, she supports patients in their lives around the intersection of sexual health, chronic disease, and disability.

Jillian Bissar formerly worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Radiation Social Work Counselor and Social Work Supervisor, supporting cancer patients and their support systems. Prior to that, she spent 12 years in HIV services as a social work case manager and supervisor, where she served children, adolescents, and adults living with HIV. She also has experience working with adolescents around sexual health and pregnancy as well as women’s health, child protection, and Intimate Partner Violence work. Her clinical interests include helping patients to live fulfilling lives, increase coping skills, improve relational functioning, and achieve their desired goals and outcomes as they navigate acute and chronic health challenges. She is a member of the Association of Oncology Social Work, Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Work, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Society for Social Work Leadership in Healthcare.

Alex B. Haynes, MD, MPH, FACS, is a board-certified surgical oncologist in UT Medicine's Surgical Oncology Clinic and the Medical Director for Oncology at UT Medicine. He specializes in caring for patients with soft tissue sarcoma, melanoma and other cancers of the skin and connective tissue. Additionally, Dr. Haynes is a professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care and a courtesy professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Oncology at The University of Texas at Austin. He also serves as the Associate Chair for Investigation and Discovery for the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care and the Interim Director of Clinical Oncology Programs for the Dell Medical School Department of Oncology.

Dr. Haynes earned his master's degree in public health from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and his medical degree from Wayne State University. He completed a residency in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, one of the teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School, a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a research fellowship in health policy and management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Haynes formerly served as a faculty member at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He has held a leadership role in the development and evaluation of the World Health Organization (WHO) Surgical Safety Checklist. His clinical interests include improving the quality and safety of surgical care for patients with cancer and other conditions. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of Clinical Oncology and The Lancet.

Nerlyne Desravines, MD, is a fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist in Women’s Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Desravines is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health.

Dr. Desravines earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed both an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Desravines’ research interests include advancing health equity for individuals with gynecologic cancers and improving perioperative outcomes. She is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
